I was bored and desided to make a story of our wolves. It is really about the plot we have but I've changed it slightly. Also the wolves have 'Souls' which are like daemons from the golden compass. If you haven't seen it or read it they are like animal representitives of your soul/spirit that have to stay with you all the time. One more thing, I just made it up so if one wolf is on the 'Rebelious' side for example it doesn't mean they are on that side or will be. Although they can be if they want.
Okay, so here it is! ;D
Chapter 1
The pup
In a small valley etched into the barren landscape lay a cold leaking cave. A lone wolf only accompanied by her falcon soul stumbled as she crawled up the side of the valley, towards the shelter, her shaking body soaked by the rain. After an hour of scraping her way up the side of the never ending path she reached the cave. Her stomach bulged as she collapsed to the floor, the falcon perched on large boulder exhausted. She screwed her soft blue eyes in pain. She was pregnant and in labour. The falcon glided to her side and tried to comfort her, pecking her ears affectionately. ‘Tigua, it’s okay. Everything will be fine.’ he cooed.
‘I know Vesser. But our time is nigh.’ she whimpered. The falcon nodded, he knew it just as well as she did. Once she died so would he.
‘What will happen to the pup?’ he asked quietly, settling close to her face.
‘I don’t know. We’ve brought him this far, only the spirits can help him now.’ she panted, gritting her teeth as her whole body gave a final heave. The tiny pup fell into the world, wet, cold and alone. Tigua reached out for him, touching him momentarily with her nose, a second of abundant love, with the knowledge that her only son would never know her, before falling back. Drawing a last shallow breath she and her soul both slipped into the perpetual sleep. Cold, exhaustion and disease had taken it‘s toll on the young female leaving her beaten and scarred. The pup lifted it’s head and let out a tiny cry. He was blind and def, totally helpless.
From the mouth of the cave came a growl. Two dark green eyes peered through the blinding rain staring inquisitively at the pup. He watched for awhile whilst his black eagle stood beside him, her eyes also fixed on the pup. ‘What are we going to do next?’ she asked quietly, her voice calm and respectful .
‘We’ll take him I guess.’ he replied.
‘I knew she wouldn’t last. She was not built for something so important.’ Inca mocked
‘Death is no laughing matter Inca, I thought you’d know that as well as anyone.’ Lupercus said, his voice a deep growl, although it was no good growling at her. She was him if that made any sense.
‘What will happen to us then? Are we going to dedicate the rest of our lives to the cause?’ she asked her voice returning to a respectful tone.
‘I don’t know Inca. Maybe we’ll die too once we’ve served our purpose. Who knows?’ he sighed. ‘Come on then we better go get him.’ he barked walking into the cave. He and Inca had followed Tigua there. The pup was Lupercus’s son and he had to raise him now his mother was dead. He intended to raise him anyway, he’d of killed Tigua if he had too. Inca ruffled her feathers, shaking the droplets of rain from her long wings. Gliding to stand beside the two dead bodies she kicked the dead soul to make sure he was defiantly dead. She held no feeling for him, although she and Lupercus had, had a passionate affair with them. She pulled her talons from the still body and flew to Lupercus’s back. Lupercus nudged the pup gently with his large nose. He responded instantly with a high pitched whine. ‘What about his Soul?’ Inca eventually asked. Lupercus shrugged,
‘We could make it now I suppose.’ signalling to the eagle to begin. Normally the mother would perform the sectioning of her pups. But now it was up to the father so he began. Inca held the pup tightly whilst taking a talon from the other foot and puncturing the pups chest. The pup yelped quietly and then fell still again. A trickle of blood fell from the wound and to the floor, making a small pool. She then took one of her own feathers, plucked from her breast and placed it in the blood. Then she pressed the wound together with her claws, closing it instantly. Lupercus handed her a twig from the floor and she stirred it carefully. ‘What will his soul be when it’s settled?’ she asked. She needed to know what animal his soul would be once it’s form had fixed when they were two years old. ‘A golden eagle. Proud and powerful the king of the birds.’ she barked. Inca turned and scoffed,
‘I see.’
‘Of course you are better. But you don’t count as a species in this world.’ he smiled. She gave a beaky grin and went back to her potion. Chanting a range of Latin words she stirred the mixture slowly, ’Come on.’ Lupercus whispered to himself, frustrated. He wanted to get out of here as quick as possible before they all froze. Inca the stood back and stopped her chanting. The blood changed from crimson red to a brilliant gold and the feather dissolved. It then began moving, twisting and reshaping it self into a ball. Then changing again it took the shape of an egg. Hardening quickly it turned to a brownish shell and rested on the cold floor. She sighed and turned to Lupercus ‘You can name them now.’ she sighed hopping to the front of the cave. Pressing a paw to the pups head he called, ‘I here by name you Aart and your soul Xenia.’ he spoke firmly, releasing the pressure from the pup. ‘We should take him now. You can carry his soul and keep it warm.’ with that Inca took the egg and tucked it under the feathers at the base of her strong neck. Holding Aart in his mouth Lupercus left the cave, Inca flying above.
Meanwhile in a distant land Summer sped through the forest, keeping close to the shadows. Her Badger companion at heal. To the untrained eye she ran from tree to tree randomly but if fact she was taking a purposeful road to a hidden destination. She looked over her shoulder suspiciously, if anyone was following her she wouldn’t give them time to catch up. Kicking her hind legs she darted down a near by badgers burrow. The entrance lead to a labyrinth of tunnels each leading to a different chamber. She took a small one to the left and hurried down it silently. After a few minutes of turning left and right down what seemed as never ending tunnels she came to a stop. She pricked her ears as the tunnels began to echo with whispers. Then, taking a left she entered the final chamber. There sat a group of four wolves each arguing quietly. Their heads snapped round as she came into view. ’Summer. You made it.’ one of them smiled. ’Not without it’s consequences.’ she grunted, flexing her badly damaged paw.
‘What happened?’ the youngest wolf asked as she rushed over to tend to her wound. Summer shook her head and sighed, ‘Just a young forcer.’
‘I’ll fetch some supplies.’ she smiled and ushered her lazy rabbit soul out of her way. Summer sat down, tired from her travels. ’So? What news do you bring form the north?’ an old male wolf whispered. ’Two more Valindor Hounds have arrived and up to twenty Smilodons.’ she sighed, shaking her head sadly. The old male nodded but eyed Summer carefully, ‘What else?’ he asked. Summer closed her eyes. ‘Our fears have been realised.-’ she was interrupted by the wolves small cries of anguish. ‘The news has been carried far by the wind, the pup has been born.’ she hung her head. Everyone stayed silent for awhile before Isabelle began to speak, ‘I will arrange for each pack to have a hide out and a group of trained wolves to take each terra supplies.’ she said calmly. The old male nodded, he appeared to be their leader. ‘Tex, you go and find Donte and tell her… the news’ he instructed. Immediately Tex obeyed and left. Isabelle sighed and nuzzled the old male affectionately, he gave her a half smile and turned away. She then turned and left, bumping into the young female as she came back through with a bunch of leaves and a horned branch. Carefully, she wrapped it around the Summers paw, she winced in pain slightly but then gave a grateful smile. Dismissing the younger wolf she also left the meeting of wolves as they all went off on their own errands. ‘So they prophecy has began I guess.’ Mana the Badger said as he plodded beside Summer.
‘Looks like it.’ she sighed, that was all she had to say on the matter. Mana grunted and continued to hobble along.
